Her stories isn't one of a kind. Isn't soul touching the way Harry Potter is dear to my heart. It's kind of an easy romance reading, almost all of her books are stories from faraway place.
Her character is the typical male and female lead, with their perfect life, perfect boyfriend. Perfect everything.
It should be boring.
News flash, it's not.
I think it's the way she writes. The way she bleeds her heart out at a typewriter. I think it's how she loves the job and loves life that I also can feel it through her typical stories and character.
But I don't know her, so it's not a statement based on a fact. It's just how I feel. Anyway, I love love love her books. You should buy all of her books. She's amazing.

Read this based on twitter followers' recommendation. Sometimes it's good to read books I don't usually choose for myself heh heh.Lucas was your typical jock-turns-a Michelin Chef. Sophie was an ordinary girl who owned a cake shop. Caring more about his pride than other people's feeling, Lucas' mean words ruined Sophie's social life in high school. Understandably, Sophie hated Lucas. Lucas felt guilty, but his apologies left unspoken. Then what happened when a few years later, their grandfathers (who are apparently close friends) insisted that they are engaged with each other?
First thing firsts, "quirky grandparents who force you into engagement" was a fun trope. I can recall a few comics with this trope as main plot drive (Goong and Let's Get Married come to mind), which I read with various level of enjoyment. However this trope here does not have the same effect, mainly because of the setting. It is set in modern times, in New York City, nonetheless. Grandparents' influence would be one of the last thing you would consider when looking for a potential romantic interest. True that the main characters were supposedly of Asian heritage, which would lend the trope some credibility, but since their Asian-ness (?) were only mentioned in passing, it doesn't really work for me.
While we're at it, the treatment of the characters' Asian heritage is somewhat...lacking. Particularly in Lucas' case : a Korean mother was mentioned in a single paragraph, but his charming point is "his dark blue eyes", and no Asian customs whatsoever influence his character. It's a pity, the story could be more interesting if this is put forward, especially because this "Asian-ness" was exactly what he mentioned when he mocked Sophie in high school!
Sophie Wilson was a character that is pleasant to read, with so much more potential. However this potential is left unpolished because the author choose to focus on how Sophie fell in love with the present-Lucas, not to let her shine as her own characters. I want her to be in conflict, to reminisce how Lucas made her high school life a hell and how that hell still follow her to the present day, to question Lucas' motives and not make it so easy for him. Alas, she still fell for his grand gestures and charming dark blue eyes (and probably that's it).
This novel is very plot-driven. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I guess for a love story I prefer to fall in love just a little bit more with the characters. I want to know what ticks them, their past secrets, what makes them the person they are. I want more flashbacks, more inner turmoils....maybe just a little bit more emotion.
It's a cute, harmless little story. Entertaining, but I suppose I want some more depth.

Meet Sophie Wilson and Lucas Ford, both in their late twenties, reunited after 10 years with the help of Lucas' grandfather. Little did they know that Sophie and Lucas had already met 10 years ago as a high schooler, unfortunately, not in a good circumstances. This is a simple and heart-warming love story. Predictable but still a fun reading. Set in New York City, though the story didn't tell much about the setting. It's a bit disappointing that Sophie can forgive Lucas in such a short time, while he didn't really do that much (and actually a bit annoying) and as being said in the beginning of the novel, Sophie seems to be hating him a lot. I'd also love to have some more stories about Adrian Graves and Spencer and Tyler (the overprotective brothers) but without those, this is still such a sweet story.
I've read Ilana Tan's books since high school and always have a feeling as if I was reading a translated book. The characters are almost always foreigner (mostly with Asian decent) and the setting is always in cities outside my country even though this is totally a local book (and I'm writing the review in other language ;)). But those characters are what made her writing style is unique and I always had a soft spot on her works.

I finish this book kn couple of months, that didnt happen before, which was a read-till-finish ones. This book still have some 'cliche coincidence' thing like Sophie's grandpa apparently at the hospital just at the time Lucas need to talk to her. Or things like the cafe Sophie and Adrian used to visit is just across the Ramses. Well, sometimes that sounds sweet, but for me it's kinda not fit.
But she still awe and the fact that this book has some preorder and stuff - I get the second edition btw, forgot about the PO and ended up waiting till the book released in bookstore -, I will give her 4,4 :) ...more
Well, firstly is the trust issue. Just because you are sitting in a coffee shop sipping cappucino with someone who's not your significant other or talking intensely by the sidewalk, doesn't mean you are cheating. And the fact that they keep believe in each other's words than just assuming (though it happens once), says something.

...moreOverall, I rate this book with 4 stars for the characters and of course for one of my favor
Love the author, the story was nice. However, I must say that her other books were better than this one. The plot was kind of flat and there's no additional spark that makes you want to keep reading it in one go. Regardless of that though, I do love the characters and the background setting of this story (don't know why, I just love old grandpa Ford). That is also the reason why I enjoy Ilana Tan's books.Overall, I rate this book with 4 stars for the characters and of course for one of my favorite author for Indonesian books.
...moreIlana Tan never cease to amaze me. I just love her writing style and I'm really looking forward for her next book. Love it. Finally finished it after taking almost half a year reading (no thanks to UKMPPD). The verdict is, this book is perfect for your afternoon tea time-or my case, when I tried to stay sane while cramming for my big test. The story is quite light, but still enough to stir your emotion.

This type of genre will never be my cup of tea (despite having this teen-lit phase in middle school just like everyone else). I can't stand all of the pretentious sh*t happening in the story.
But I guess it's just because this is not the author's best work. Will probably give another shot for the author's best writing.

...moreA light story with simple and common conflict in relationship.
Love all the character except Miranda Young. As soon as she being introduced, I already hate her.
Not too interested in Adrian Graves too, an arrogant and coward man.
Nic is funny tho, it'll be nice to have a friend like him.
It is nice to read a light romance amidst a busy day, as the story is not too dramatic and relate more to daily life and common love story.
Just got the chance to As expected from Ilana Tan, always love all her books.

The story always connected with the others book, That make it's special, unique, amazed the reader by the connection of each book.
Ilana Tan book is fantastic
Especially this book, Lucas Ford and Sophie Wilson.
They are so sweet. Can't even describe it in words.
Can't move on from this book.
Waiting for the next Ilana Tan books.
Anyway Ilana Tan had published the other book called The Star and I on 29 April 2021
Happy readings…..

...moreHeart-warming? No.
Sweet? Not really.
It's just… quite tolerable.
If you want to read a light novel with super minimum conflict (or no conflict at all), then go for this.
I am still thinking how it's so easy to get the girl's heart.
That's all
Bland and forced.I am still thinking how it's so easy to get the girl's heart.
